About Middletown High School Crew:
Crew began at Middletown High School in 1971, started by Coach John K. “Jack” Smith, continued by Bob Mulconry and other dedicated and loyal coaches, some alum of the team. The team has a long and proud tradition of excellence, including alumni Olympic medalist, Phil Stekl. We have a boys’ and girls’ team as it pertains to practice and racing, but operate as one large team in all other aspects. The team practices at the John K. Smith Boathouse at Harbor Park on the Connecticut River in Middletown, CT. All students at Middletown High School are eligible to join the team. MHS Crew races annually at the Head of the Riverfront, the Head of the Fish, and some years at the Head of the Charles in the fall season. In the spring season the team races the other public high school rowing programs in the state in preparation for the CPSRA State Championships on Lake Waramaug in New Preston, CT on the 3rd weekend in May. We also host the Novice Regatta in May and Emerson Regatta in June. Go Blue Dragons!
